I have watched seasons 1-9 of this show. It starts with each team hosting the judges and competitors in their homes for an ‘instant restaurant.’ The contestants rate each other’s three course meals. It’s the best part of the show.

There’s a lot of drama in season 9. I was wondering if anyone else watches this thing. Seems like it was pretty popular in Australia.

I watched a previous season of this a few years ago, but it wasn't my cuppa tea, as it seemed more geared towards creating drama between the couples than focussing on the food.

FWIW, one of the hosts of My Kitchen Rules, Pete Evans, has since fallen headfirst down the anti-vax, Covid-is-caused-by-5G, neo-Nazi, anti-Semitism conspiracy theory rabbit hole, as a result of which he was dropped like a hot potato by every TV and publishing company, and lost all his sponsorship deals.

As Aussie cooking shows go, you can't beat Masterchef Australia, which is 65 episodes of fun and great cooking (although watching this season has been particularly hard, knowing that judge Jock Zonfrelli died the night before the first episode was due to air).

Thank you for that info, essexjan! I think Pete and Manu hated each other and I won't miss Pete. I've learned a little from this show because it's so repetitive and I know nothing about cooking. You're right though- it's heavily produced and the interviews seem scripted.
