Follows a young rapper in the Detroit area, struggling with every aspect of his life, wants to make it big but his friends and foes make this odyssey of rap harder than it may seem.

Trailer, reviews: David Denby, Nathan Rabin, Peter Travers.

Directed by Curtis Hanson, the movie stars Anthony Mackie, Mekhi Phifer, Kim Basinger, and Brittany Murphy. It is rapper Eminem's acting debut (and, other than some brief cameos as himself in things like Da Hip Hop Witch and Funny People, his only movie role).

'Lose Yourself' won an Oscar for Best Original Song.

I know he was basically playing a version of himself, but I though Eminem was pretty good in this movie.

Certainly good enough to do some more gigs as a character actor or in a supporting role.

It's been a long while since I've seen 8 Mile, but I very much remember being surprised at how good it was as a film.
