The Afterparty: Vivian and Zoe
September 6, 2023 5:36 PM - Season 2, Episode 10 - Subscribe

The denouement, in which Zoe gets a little weird and a dog refuses to die. Reviews of the finale here, here, and here.

Awww, it was Ulysses accidentally trying to kill Feng? Disappoint, I liked that guy.

Well, good for Aniq and Zoe, and Danner and...Jaleel.

Man, I hope they keep going with this show, but also if they don't then this makes a great finale. I appreciated the way that they played fair with the murder mystery this season too, and left enough clues for people to formulate plausible hypotheses that wound up paying off, too.

I did find myself wondering, like, how many other genres are there to work with if they do a third season, but this season contained two (very good) director pastiches, so I'm sure they've got things covered on that front.

I was amused that they "got" Daniel Radcliffe, and then, they had Elijah Wood.

I didn't even notice that.
Perfect!

Daniel Radcliffe was said to be Xavier, Elijah Wood was playing Yasper. I would be DELIGHTED if Season 3 is at the afterparty for the launch party. It's about damn time those two were in something together. And the ripped bod Radcliffe is currently displaying for Miracle Workers S4 would be perfect for Xavier. And they should absolutely cast Jon Barinholtz to play the Ike Barinholtz role.

I enjoyed the heck out of this season. Is it the first time that John Cho has played the "bad guy"? It's the first time I remember seeing him do it. The confrontation between her and Vivian, in which she's planning to drink out of the horn - wow. Fantastic.

I was delighted to see that Travis got his win in the end with Bucephalus. Now, is it me or did his speech impediment go away as he was talking to Sebastian at the end there? It seemed like he was suddenly a lot more together.

This show actually got my to checkout from the library ‘Flash Forward’, which was adapted into a terrible show starring Cho 15 years ago.

The book was worse, and it didn’t even have John Cho in it.

Flash Forward was pretty good for the first few episodes. Then they changed showrunners, and the new showrunner had a completely different idea for the endgame and changed things a bunch. Then they changed showrunners AGAIN and the new showrunner had YET ANOTHER different end game in mind. It was sort of the opposite of Lost's eventual problem, where they had no end-game in mind at all.

John Cho was also in the delightful Selfie, which should have gotten a second season, damn it.

My friends and I watched each week, scouring all the clues and I cannot believe we missed that Edgar Minnows' name was an anagram of 'wrong man dies’!

Thanks, I’ve been wondering what went wrong!

It had an amazing cast. Michael Ealy was in it as well, who was Dancer’s love interest.

On the one hand I enjoyed the style pastiches this year, on the other hand, I missed the slow accumulation of hints and red herrings that we got last year. I mean, it was there, in the little bits of story overlap there was, but otherwise I thought large chunks of the individual episodes were too far afield and not just covering the wedding weekend?

It was fun, I'd watch another season with Aniq Poirot, sure, but I'm a sucker for the core group.
