Jessica's friend Haskell Drake, a veteran reporter who suffered a heart attack, says his best medicine would be the removal of his publisher, Lamar Bennett, who has turned a good paper into a yellow rag. Jessica gets involved after Bennett dies at the first anniversary party marking the takeover of the paper, but there seems to be more than enough people with motives to kill Bennett.

Fun facts: "dipso" is short for dipsomaniac, a historical term describing the medical condition of someone who has an uncontrollable craving for alcohol. And that Sperry logo is in reference to the now-defunct Sperry Corporation (see this Sperry+UNIVAC ad from 1978).

I loved watching this episode because it was so dated to a time when journalists and newspapers were almost modern - computers! - and then rushing for deadlines and dynasty-like takeover politics. Very eighties fun.

I recognized the sportswriter as the mayor from The Wire. Also the hospitalized writer used to be a cop in a different episode.
