Yeah, I thought this was above average, but what's the deal with all the Mick Jagger! Rap Battle and Shrek were both way better than they had a right to be.

Mick and Lorne Michaels are multi-decade friends. Why did they pull out the Mick card specifically this week? Who knows.

I thought this was well below average. Shrek had its weird moments and the "use the Danish butter cookie tin for sewing supplies" was a very solid reference. Ego did good character work with Jada.

Why the Mick card? Because he has a new album and was in New York for it, presumably.

Yes, and Lady Gaga had just performed with them in New York too.

Age of Discovery is one of the best pre-recorded bits in my recent memory. Have they done entirely non-English skits before?

I'm guessing between the Taylor Swift cameo last week, and the Mick Jagger/Lady Gaga this week, that Lorne may feel like there isn't enough star power in the host (since neither have been super star movie stars), and needs to pump it up a little, and since he can't get actors, he's pulling favors from musicians. Or, I mean, if Mick and Lady Gaga are in town and want to play a little on the Studio 8H stage, can you really say no?

Good episode; love to see a host totally get into it.

Felt to me like it was leaning on cameos a lot.

When Mick came on the first time I thought, "Who is that guy? He looks kinda like the guy from the Rolling Stones but why would he be showing up in a telenovela sketch? Oh well I guess I'll have to wait for the thank yous at the end."

I suspect the cameos were to assist so that it wasn't a Spanish language show for the whole episode.
