Reacher: A Night At The Symphony
December 25, 2023 6:05 PM - Season 2, Episode 4 - Subscribe

Reacher and his team head to Boston to track down a political aide with insider knowledge of a top secret military-defense contract that may be the reason behind their friends' deaths. (IMDb)

This episode picks up with the team sitting in a diner pouring through the information they grabbed when they broke in to New Age. Swan's loyalty is questioned but Reacher is a believer. A cryptic email that Swan sent reveals a new clue; "Little Wing" is the code name for a new missile defense system for which New Age is hoping to get the contract. This leads to a discussion of military appropriations and a plan to shake down a legislative aide who wrote the bill. It involves an arrest by last season's police detective, Oscar Finley who apparently moved back to The Hub after the events in Georgia and Reacher and O'Donnell pretending to be FBI agents. The aide confesses, explains the workings of Little Wing and that it will be built at New Age's plant in Denver. With that, the team splits up, half to Denver and half to DC to warn Homeland Security about the mysterious assassin/terrorist AM who is now impersonating a doctor.

I continue to question that Reacher can readily find clothes to fit in, either in army-navy surplus stores (the books), thrift stores. or department store's men's suits.

"650 at $100 K each" To me, that sounded like someone was deliberately tanking the missile testing? Is that something they would test 2,197 times? Though why pay to make it look less reliable?

It’s production figures - they’re artificially failing testing on units (650 of them) so they can be sold on the black market (at 100k ea).

Frothy!
From the Talking Heads diversion to the reappearance of Finley (I appreciated the hell out of Finley) this was somehow a very gen-X episode (which I guess makes sense, given the author and all.) If maybe not the series' finest.
The psycho killer I don't quite... get... but then again there is often a tabloid-y luridness to the violence in the books. So it does scan, but he seems like a chaos vector you could avoid by just keeping your distance.

I love that Neagley calls Reacher a kaiju

Neagley also takes a moment while searching the New Age Operations woman's house to compliment her daughter's taste in videogames. They're clearly giving her a trait. Not sure whether it will actually become plot significant or not - I don't see how. But it's a little character bit for her.

And yes, nice to get a bit of Finley again even if just a pinch.
