Reacher: New York's Finest
January 6, 2024 10:22 AM - Season 2, Episode 6 - Subscribe

Herc from the Wire is noble. Reacher has a stationary murder bus. The T1000 is grouchy. Everyone has guns.

Kind of continuing the S2 trajectory; I'm not feeling this season as much, with the extended cast, more layered plots, and a general feeling that this has kind of gotten out from underneath the creative team.

This episode was definitely a boring retread that added very little to the story.

I did get a big laugh when Russo accused his boss of sullying the good name of the NYPD, calling it 'one of the finest police departments in the world' or however he put it. Like it hasn't been corrupt as fuck for decades.

Sure, but that is totally something a character like Russo would believe and say.

I like this season just as much as season 1, but then again I watch mainly for the action scenes.

I had "Good Cop dies" on my bingo sheet since the last episode because he was getting humanized at a suspicious pace. Makes me sad. And apparently the streets of NYC are completely deserted in the evening to allow a gunfight car chase across the city without any kind of response.

Stationary murder bus exemplifies why I like this show: super serious, super goofy. But this season does feel like it's got too much going on to wrap up in just a couple more episodes.

yeah just incredible for them to show up at the last minute, run over the guy as he's about to fire, and then say, "call 911" like half of i dunno queens isn't streaming this live on instagram as it happens.

The writing hasn't been that great in the last two episodes, it feels like a different, less competent crew and show at the moment. Still fun but I do hope it course corrects for the latter half.

I will grant that I had a chuckle at the "I am a first person shooter" line, so it's not entirely without its charms.

Yeah, also, she should have used the informal tu.

Also Marla, on the run, calls T1000 to set up a meet because “those Reacher people are after me and I’m afraid for my life”. But if she truly were afraid, she wouldn’t be waiting in a dark bus repair yard in the rain. She’d pick a nice indoor mall with lots of eyewitnesses around.

yeah this show gets dumber by the minute. It's a shame because the lead actors clearly are having fun with the characters, and the infrequent deadpan bon-mots ("informal tu") are goood, but the majority of the writing is SO. BAD.

It has "A-Team" level of plot armor. Some presumably well-trained guy's spraying reacher with an automatic rifle with dozens of shots from a helicopter with him standing in the open. and no hit? but he bangs away with his (9mm, extremely large magazine!) handgun in return and you hear it ping off the helicopter?

Bullets go through light metal/upholstery from high powered weapons. Spray a car a dozen times from the back and you know in reality someone's getting hit.

Also, wouldn't reacher just fucking STINK? He changes clothes, what, every 2-3 days, after various high-octane shenanigans (running and fighting and fucking).
He wouldn't need to clear a room with CQB tactics,, he could, you know, just raise an armpit?
