Get On Your Knees - Jacqueline Novak (2024)

Comedian Jacqueline Novak waxes very poetically about a particular life-long obsession of hers.
An adaptation of Novak’s one-woman off-Broadway show, Get On Your Knees is a non-stop, high-energy, monologue exploring and celebrating a life-long love of, and obsession with, a particular intimate act.
While the topic is definitely adult, the performance is far from it. This is not a string of cheap sex jokes. This is a delightfully energetic(!), poetic, literary, performance.
Directed by Natasha Lyonne, and currently streaming on Netflix.

Very cool, hepta! I can't imagine the energy watching her live like you did. It was exhausting just watching the Netflix special. In a good way, of course.

I love her podcast Poog (I'm a loyal hag) and I loved this show live. If you like her ruminating on words, the podcast is for you.
The first 20 minutes of the netflix special seemed off to me--the audio seemed garbled, the spotlight off. The theater where I saw the show was much smaller, so the back and forth didn't seem as much as a sprint.
And if you're near Pasadena, run don't walk to see her poog cohost in KATE (which was also GREAT).
Back to the special: I love how ... innocent/uncomplicated it feels. Straightforward, like The Hound's Way.

I didn't notice any audio issues. But, I definitely had a lot of sympathy for the spotlight crew. That couldn't have been an easy gig.
