Special Event: NHL Trade deadline

I HATE IT!
I am a very new NHL fan living through my 1st (and a half? wasn't paying that much attention last year) festival of cruelty AKA rehome a senior pet season AKA the trade deadline.
I have never in my life spent an afternoon refreshing multiple sports websites over and over to see what's happening with a motley assortment of toothless and muscled men. The spectre of Jake Guentzel's departure from the Pens? Duhaime to the Avs? Fucking anyone to Vegas ugh ugh.
How is everyone feeling out there this week? Who are you crying about?
(Note that nobody I care very much about is seriously in playoff contention this year, so it's all sadness on my end. Feel free to wax poetic about the trades that benefit your NHL experience.)

I haven't been paying much attention but I can only imagine being saddened by whatever the Sharks do today. I don't know if they're seriously on the trading block, but please leave Couture and Hertl where they are!

This Sportsnet article mentions Granlund and Ferraro on the Sharks, I don't know if you have warm feelings about either of them. Granlund is new to the team this year, right?

I just want the Ullmark trade rumors from the Bruins to be false. Please do not split up the most wholesome goalie duo ever!!

I'm surprised by the volume, and thus not quality, of assets going to the Pens for Guentzel, but Guentzel is UFA, but it sounds like Carolina has interest/ wherewithal to re-sign him.
Feels like an EA Sports (console hockey game) type trade, though.
Then again, there's the Beauvillier. situation I almost feel sorry for the dude; this will be his third team this year and traded for essentially a bag of pucks both times*. And he was a throw-in/ salary-dump in the Horvat trade to Vancouver the year prior and was average-at-best-for-his-(moderate)-expectation.
Almost? He has a multi-year $5M -per contract. Which is about 6% of the salary cap. A team ices 20 players at any one time, but players not iced may still count towards the cap. So somewhat overpaid for an average player but terrible contract for what he delivers.
*Vancouver got incredibly lucky being able to find someone to take Beauvillier (a forward) off of their hands earlier this year; Chicago needed replacement players after a series of injuries and the loss of another player (another forward), but to extra-hockey behaviour

If my beloved Blues (a team name synonymous with depression) trade Buchnevich away today, it means we’re giving up and entering a 3-4 year rebuild. It’s like groundhog’s day for sports masochists.

Oh, if you’re a new fan let me give you my playoff watching ritual. If you have a team in, great! Watch all their games. If your team doesn’t make it, pick some middle tier team and pray for upsets, but watch every potential elimination game for all the series (where one team has 3 wins in hand). Sometimes I only watch game 7s in the first round. Either way, by the Finals you WILL either be passionate about a team winning, or absolutely hate one of the teams. Probably both!

I had a really fun time following Florida's playoff run last year and then UGH Vegas ugh. Who knows what horrors await me this playoff season, may we all find bright spots in unexpected places!
I guess for me the worst outcome would be a final between two good teams I don't give a shit about, so maybe Canes/Vegas?

I honestly feel sad for all the Pitt players who came or stayed hoping for one last run for the Cup only to have it blow up in a very ugly sad season. And now, with Guentzel gone, it sounds like Crosby's seriously considering offers? End of times.

It's over, right? Deadline at 3 pm Eastern? Absolutely a dire couple of days for me, a sensitive middle aged lady who is inexperienced in these ritual bloodlettings.
Now Deweys left on the Wild. No favorite child on Crosby's left wing. Geno flagellating himself for the fans, darling it's not your fault. I feel like Vegas is doing some kind of strategic LTIR with Mark Stone so they could afford big moves and it only makes me loathe them more.
