The Romanian New Wave takes on a lesbian romance.

Because it's a Romanian movie though, they're separated by the pressures of culture and poverty, manifesting in Voichița's clinging to the convent.

It's sad, well-observed, and well done.

But a part of me definitely wanted to just shout: Alina doesn't need you to help her find the right way to confess and give her life to Jesus... she needs you to back the fuck off and let her take her girlfriend with her to Germany.

But Voichița has only ever been looking for a safe place to land. It was Alina, but now it's the convent.
