IMDB: An idyllic rural family life of a couple is thrown into turmoil when their son starts acting out of character. Very solid modern entry into the British folk horror film canon.

4/5 story, 5/5 vibes, 0 wet puppets.

Our household thought it was a great British folk horror piece, with a clear lineage back to The Wicker Man and of a piece with recent entries like A Field in England and (kinda) In The Earth, but much more linear than the latter two.

The IMDB description doesn't really do any harm, but what it covers isn't really the movie that unfolds. It set us up to expect something very different than what the story delivered, and the story delivered very well.

Definitely (and again, in the folk horror tradition) not the kind of horror movie where there's a clear baddie and things end up resolved and tied in a bow. It's more of a slice of rural weirdness that explores the intersection of the Old Ways and modern (well, '70s) sensibilities.

If you're a folk horror fan, well worth your time.

0 wet puppets.

A fellow Scaredy Cats fan, I see!

I looped into Scaredy Cats when I was looking for quality analysis of Psycho Goreman, and his (entirely justified) love for that movie, and delirious enthusiasm over its plethora of wet puppets, imprinted on me super hard.

I love Scaredy Cats but I just wish we heard more from Bobby Duke, the star of the channel. I also really enjoy Thought Slime, a far-left political commentary channel from the same creator. (Just so's you know, the former Scaredy Matt now goes by Mildred and identifies as they/she)

The plot was right out of the folk horror textbook, but the acting was good, the film looks great, and the vibes were excellent.
