In 2200, private detective Aline Ruby and her android partner Carlos Rivera are hired by a wealthy businessman to track down a notorious hacker. On Mars, they descend deep into the underbelly of the planet's capital city where they uncover a darker story of brain farms, corruption, and a missing girl who holds a secret about the robots that threatens to change the face of the universe.
This is such a pretty movie. The rotoscoping style works really well with their Flashback cyberpunk aesthetic.
The dub is good, but seems to be limited to North America territories.
The ending drags out a bit though. We've just been through an action-packed detective story, the mystery is solved, and then we're treated to ten minutes of contemplative walking. Even though where they ended up was a satisfying place, it's a real gear shift from 5th to 1st.

I really enjoyed this. It seems cliché to compare it to Ghost in the Shell, but... I thought it had Ghost in the Shell vibes, while creating its own specific and interesting setting. I had never heard of this before, and I'm glad I came across it here.

The movie is pretty casual about the main duo's flaws of alcoholism and domestic violence, and there are absolutely no prizes for guessing who the big bad is, until it turns out that they aren't and maybe the whole thing is waaaaaaaay more complex than initially thought.
