Helen Zaltzman presents an extended interview with Craig Schoonmaker on how how the word ‘pride’ came to be the banner word for demonstrations and celebrations of LGBT rights and culture.

It was interesting to hear from Craig Schoonmaker, but I was disappointed there was no mention of the black pride / black power movement/s, which surely must have influenced the choice of terminology in 1969?

He touched on how they didn't want to use "Gay Power" as they didn't really have power, and later in the interview he acknowledged the Black Rights movement had inspired the Gay Pride movement, but there wasn't a direct link between the two.

I wonder if Black Power adopted the "Pride" label after the success of Gay Pride?
