Evidently Finn gets a lot better at this after a couple seasons.

The episode is great because it helps establish that Jake isn't a mighty hero who is invincible. He can and does get in over his head and suffers some pretty traumatic injuries in the process. The Demon Cat is kind of one of the scarier monsters on the show, too. Nasty Demon Cat.

I'm curious if the demon cat was supposed to be a play on Schroedingers Cat (as the cat is both there and not there).

Likewise, it could have also been a nod to the Cheshire Cat, too.
