Heh, true hierarchy of the suburban neighborhood. Teenage boys are tough, but teenage girls are the meanest.

Dave- Since there's a group of us, I think it's pretty obvious who we should dress as... the greatest supergroup of all time. The traveling Wilburys.
- Nope.
- Who?
- Is that K.D. Lang?
Dave- "Is that K.D."... guys! Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Jeff freakin' Lynne! I mean, there's five of them and five of us. It can't miss.
Eddie- Yeah... I'm pretty sure I'm gonna do my own thing for Halloween.
Dave- Oh. And is your thing a triple-platinum record? Because the Wilburys already did that.
...
Louis- Little early with the door, Dave!
Dave- I'm sorry. My yardstick got caught in the handle. Jeff friggin' Lynne.

(I don't remember who said what, so I just tweaked the formatting from this transcript of the episode.)

I love Dave. He's a reliable character, with a soft spot for soft pop media (remember his love of the 9 to 5 videogame?). It probably helps that I love 9 to 5 and The Traveling Wilburys (who my son calls the Traveling Wheelbarrows, which makes me love them even more).

This is the first episode of the show I've been able to get my husband to sit through watching. (Don't ask me why! He just hates taking on new shows.) I think what won him over was Jessica's unending attempt to do physical harm to those teenage boys. That is something he can understand.

I wish that Nicole & her gang's insults of the teenage boys had been more creative/personal instead of almost entirely misogynist slurs. But another great episode otherwise.

I think the absence of voiceover narration from adult Eddie Huang has been a good thing for the show overall, but especially in the scenes with young Eddie and his school friends. Now the camera doesn't have to cut away from the scene for Eddie's reaction shots, they can all be a bunch of goofballs together.
