The Venture Bros.: Hostile Makeover
February 1, 2016 1:50 AM - Season 6, Episode 1 - Subscribe

The Ventures relocate to New York City after Rusty inherits Jonas Jr.'s entire fortune and commercial enterprise. It's appropriate that the episode is spurred by newfound wealth, because the entire thing is solid gold.

The boys explore the options and opportunities that mind-boggling wealth may afford. Rusty deals with the local superhero clique and realizes that his compound is now directly across the street from the lair of a G.C.I. bigwig. Helper becomes jealous of JJ's personal staff, and The Pirate Captain is reunited with an old friend.

Meanwhile, The Monarch deals with the news of Rusty's good fortune, and begins plotting/scheming/making a mess. Parallel to that, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch works with the surviving Council members to salvage the remains of the Guild after the Sovereign's death.

It was so damn good. How does this show manage to stay this good after so long? It was really good.

I'm really hoping Hank is walking into a messed up parody of The Little Mermaid.

Epilogue scene here.

How does this show manage to stay this good after so long?

The Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer are still in charge of everything, and serve to balance George Lucas in terms of central creators with a vision.

Sadly, this looks like the first of eight episodes for the season.

Back to this episode - I hope the Dr. Mrs. Monarch "relationship" with Wide Wale isn't sexual, because I home for more from them. On the flip side, it was fun to see Brown Widow return. I may binge on past seasons after this one is done. Anyone up for a re-watch?

Things I now can't wait to see happen this season:
1) The Romeo & Juliet story with Hank and Wide Whale's daughter
2) How Rusty manages to lose all JJ's money by the end of the season
3) Sgt Hatred "undercover" protecting everyone
4) Brock and Warriana hooking up and trying to keep it secret
5) New council of 13 members trying to figure out how to use all of the Guild's tech to keep their faces hidden
6) More Night Dick *snicker*

I would totally be up for a full rewatch after this season, I always find myself having to go back and look stuff up, the mythology has gotten out of control.

How Rusty manages to lose all JJ's money by the end of the season

You think it'll last that long? He just fired everyone from one of the offices, which I expect makes a significant amount of money for Venture Industries. I bet he'll blow half of it on bespoke speed suits.

Sgt Hatred "undercover" protecting everyone

It's already started, and it's so good! I was worried he'd start arching outside of guild rules.

Brock and Warriana hooking up and trying to keep it secret

Or, they try to keep it secret when everyone knows what's going on (remember the truth lasso? I'm pretty sure everyone heard him).

Any guesses as to how Monarch will take his wife pulling him from arching his long-time nemesis? She's the brains of the duo, and he has no real brawn to back him up now, especially as his main man is pretty savvy to the world and their place in it, and not keen on throwing himself into the fray just because the Monarch says so.

He's not demanding sex- that's just a misdirection. What he actually wants is arching rights for Dr. Venture. Remember that the Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch swing- when she says the Monarch is jealous, she doesn't mean sexually jealous. Remember how irrational and crazy he got when Sgt. Hatred was assigned arching rights to Venture? And based on the conclusion, where Dr. Mrs. The Monarch picks up Gary and the Monarch and tells Hatred that they were poaching an arch, Wide Wale got exactly what he wanted.

There's no way the season doesn't end with Rusty fainting and waking up back at the compound in the exact same spot where this episode opens because something happened with all the money, Doc and Jackson love to loop things around like that.

How does this show manage to stay this good after so long?
Very much like Always Sunny in Philadelphia, tight creative control, short seasons (both are a bit north of 10 episodes/season on average) and with VB, no schedule demands from the network.

And yes, Rusty is going to blow all money and burn the Venture Tech Tower to the ground by the end of the season. Just how literally...

The single biggest laugh I got out of this episode was definitely H.E.L.P.eR. casually shoving the other robot off the building.

I was cracking up the entire time, and that last shove is what sent me weeping with laughter. Also - I had to double check because when I thought about it, I couldn't remember the Captain's name - apparently he's never been given one! He's just.. The Pirate Captain. Right up there with The Waitress in ASiP for best recurring nameless characters.

People like to complain about the ridiculous lengths between season, which is a little fair, because I mean, the pilot aired in 2003, but when the creators are able to keep up a consistently tight and good product I'm willing to let it slide. Although the long hiatuses mean I forget like half the plot points so I indeed would be up for a rewatch.

Remember that the Monarch and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch swing

I remembered this vaguely from an earlier season so I had a strong sense that they were just misdirecting. Plus a whole Dr. Mrs. The Monarch cheating plotline seems kind of beneath them at this point.

If it takes two years to produce eight episodes of the best show on television, so be it, you know?

Well hell, you know I endorse this. :D

I came here to say pretty much the same stuff:

1) I am so glad it was worth it waiting so long for a season to be produced. I have been squirming for a couple of years now. All this squirming has paid off. Jackson & Doc are masters of character, plot development, and timing.

2) The final second of the show was the best punctuation mark for this episode. I guffawed. TIMING!

And the rest of it? Yeah, I'm very excited to see where they will take all of this. My tour guide senses are tingling...

I finally caught up on this last night. Amazing of course. Random thoughts:

- Wide Wale - I don't know how if other people know this but "wale" is what you call a ridge on corduroy and so in addition to looking like a whale, the guy always has striped suits. Between that and "Think Tank" this is going to be the season of pun-tastic villains. If the Fallen Archer wasn't bad enough.

- As PG notes, WW now has arching rights on Dr Venture so we'll see tension between the Monarchs as well as between The Monarch and Wide Wale.

- Are the rest of the council of 13 still up on Meteor Majeure?

- The "more coloured people" bit from the guild meeting was comedy gold. Also when was the last time we saw that underground Guild bar? I guess we saw it briefly in the special but it seems like a long time ago.

Don Hell's featured prominently in the episode Bot Seeks Bot, then in the special.

I loved the Wide Wale. The reference to the Kingpin fits in sublimely with the whole Marvel/Avengers riff, and I can't wait to see what they do with the rest of the season.

this episode was TOO GOOD. I loved Dean's new get-ups. Mostly they were over my head, and I spent a lot of time thinking "Is he trying to look like Miami Vice?" I guess I need to up my pop cred.

Based on the loud, velvety SWOOSH sounds whenever Wide Wale moves, I don't think those are just striped suits: He's literally wearing several square yards of finest corded Manchester.

On re-watching, Dr Mrs The Monarch gets drowned out by the sound of Wide Wale walking across the room with the corduroy rubbing sound.

Will Wide Wale's superpower be static electricity generated by corduroy friction?

corduroy rubbing sound.

Without knowing about wale (vs. whale), I thought it sounded like water sloshing.
