I love Cassidy, I laughed out loud when he mowed down the two dudes all decked out in body armour and guns. It was the greatest.

I am thoroughly addicted to this show and can't wait to see where all this is going.

I don't even know what to say about "Losing Cruise: Emotion Impossible" on the TV in the motel. I almost didn't catch it. I wonder how many other little things I'm missing.

Almost felt bad for Donnie while he was trying to explain things to his son or being treated like shit at work, but then he lost my sympathy pretty quickly after that.

This is definitely a show I look forward to, I'm dying to know where it's going. There's a lot of interesting threads dangling and I just hope it doesn't fall off the rails any time soon.

Cassidy is indeed the greatest.

My sympathy for Donnie is pretty short. Yeah on the one hand apparently he wasn't actually abusing his wife, but he's still a shitty person. Jesse was just looking out for a family, he backed off when he realized the situation. It was all on Donnie who kept making things worse for himself.

I love the complexity of that with Donny. Yeah, maybe he's not a wifebeater per se, but he did tell Jesse he would kick the shit out of his kid for tattling. And also show up with his Confederate reenactment buddies to rough up Jesse for the crime of talking to his wife and kid. And then try to kill Jesse in a gas station bathroom. And wasn't he the ringleader of the gang beating up on the high school's new non-racist mascot? Donny's just as much of an asshole as we thought he was, just not for the reason we thought he was. (But under what circumstances did his church-going west Texas wife discover that she "liked it", anyway?)

The other thing I love is the Sheriff who obsesses over anecdotes about fucked up atrocities in the world while ignoring the shit going on literally in front of his face. Facebook wasn't around when Preacher was written, but I could definitely see that dude being Everybody's Racist Uncle On Facebook.

I was actually a little aggravated by this episode. It felt slow.

Then again, I have the luxury/burden of having read the books. I want shit to get going.

Seeing Jackie Earl Haley as the meat exec is interesting. I've loved that guy since he played Rorschach.

This is, increasingly, The Cassidy Show for me.

Tobascodagama, maybe Donny and the missus met on Fetlife. ;)

I think when I do my binge rewatch, I'll turn on captions. Because Cassidy's lines are great, and I feel I'm missing every 5th word-ish.

I wonder if the meat company's hold music includes cow-bashing sounds over smooth/light jazz? It feels like that might be an in-universe truism.

I don't find Cassidy that difficult to understand, but then I have a real-life Irish coworker whose accent is only slightly less comically exaggerated.

However, I'll also add that I started watching TV with the captions on a few years ago, since my partner is slightly hearing impaired, and I just can't do it captionless anymore. Something about the experience just makes shows easier to follow, even though I don't strictly speaking need the assistance.

I would add Tulip to that personally, but yeah. Jesse Custer isn't interesting to me here yet, and I feel like it's time for them to start moving the plot forward. However, no matter what Cassidy does, he's completely awesome. And I maintain that I would watch an entire show of Ruth Negga: Criminal or Ruth Negga: Secret Agent. (I forget who pointed out just how wasted she was on Agents of SHIELD, but yeah. That was tragic.)

I don't even know what to say about "Losing Cruise: Emotion Impossible" on the TV in the motel.

The little things are so great with this whole thing. I *really* want this show to last. (Like, I am willing to just sit and watch whatever they throw at the screen every week - I want the plot to move forward so enough other people stick with it too.)

I like the pacing on the show - maybe not reading the books is a good thing, for once. I don't know what's coming, so I can enjoy the show as is. I was impatient for an entire season of Game of Thrones waiting for that one scene that everyone was talking about.

I loved watching Jesse explore his new powers. It's a refreshing change from certain other characters in the Marvel Universe who view their superpowers as the most oppressive thing ever.

Nerd trivia: In Bram Stroker's book Count Dracula does go out in the sun, he's just much weaker and doesn't have as much supernatural power. It's nice to see a modern work where vampires don't turn to dust as soon as the sunlight touches their skin!

I forget who pointed out just how wasted she was on Agents of SHIELD, but yeah.

I don't know if I was the one who mentioned it, but this is a thought that has frequently gone through my mind. Raina was the most interesting thing about SHIELD for a while, even though she did exactly fuck all but walk around being mysterious. Now that Ruth Negga actually has some real material to work with, she's knocking it right the fuck out of the park.

I read the comic, and I'm actually really glad it's diverging. I won't get into specifics in a show-only thread, just that... hm. Like, not only did I read that story already, but it occurred in a highly visual medium at the time? It's a little different versus an adaptation of a novel. I kind of want to be surprised in this instance.

I'm just worried about falling numbers and cancellation - I already want a ton of The Adventures of Tulip and Cassidy and Okay Jesse Can Come Too, and I think I maybe never really got over Firefly. Hehe.

Yeah. She's got some real screen presence, and is absolutely delightful to watch. I know I keep going on about that, but... man.

That's a good point. While I'm sort of not that into Custer yet, his encounter with Donny in the restroom rang really, really true to me, and was fun to watch. Also, him high tailing it after making the girl open her eyes was absolutely perfect. I think that's exactly what I'd do in the same bizarre circumstances: flee! Hahaha.

(I may be doing Cooper a disservice by comparing Jesse Custer to Howard Stark, too. I know Cooper can be a lot zanier, and so far, the only place that's peeked out is in the 'hop' scene with Cassidy. I hold out high hopes for Custer when things get rolling a little more.)

Poor girl is gonna have some badly scratched corneas if Jesse ever thinks to tell her to wake up.
