Feed the Beast: Screw You, Randy

Tommy and Dion bring Thirio to life with Rie’s designs. But in order to pay for it all, the guys have to resort to crime.

The guys make amends with Tommy's father and get the money to get started, Pilar comes on board as manager even though she has no idea what she's doing, some wine gets borrowed from Tommy's old boss (and the guard who tries to stand in the way gets injured) and the problematic parts of the contract start to creep forward.

Maybe it will come back to bite them in a later episode, but I thought the wine heist was particularly dumb. Tommy's old boss isn't going to visit his new restaurant when it opens? He won't wonder how their wine list is made up of the wines stolen from him?

The AMC recap of the first episode says Pilar is introduced saying her husband dying in her arms, but is that really how it happened? My memory is that she just says Oscar died in her arms. I feel like a big reveal to come is that what brought her to the grief group is going to be something more trivial than she has led Tommy and others to believe.

David Schwimmer really makes this show. I don't buy him as an alcoholic, but he plays the deep sadness very well, and it's also fascinating to see him click into über-wine-sommelier mode.
