Vulture review - Review: Not Much Light in Fox’s Rocky Horror Picture Show

Guess I should have checked the reviews first, sounds like this may be floptacular, but, I'm still hopeful it will be entertaining anyway.

Um. So far, Columbia's pretty great. I'm at my house, but feel like I should put on my Frank N Furter (with the Horrible Wig) costume and run around outside at some point.

Also, definitely not enough fishnets for my taste yet sooooo hopefully that will change.

Some of the lip-synching is less than stellar, but, so far it doesn't seem as bad as the reviews. Nice to see Penny Dreadful's Dorian Gray again. And I'm liking Laverne Cox's Frank N Furter.

Well, I think she's great, but it seems like Cox's Frank is too "pretty," or maybe too "put-together;" Curry's Frank seemed like the person you feel like it's probably dangerous to get close to because the character is giving off some weird vibes but their charisma and your curious nature allow you to get too close and then you wake up in the morning and you're like "god that was a terrible decision. Where am I"

But if they're not going to eat Eddie...what are they going to serve for dinner when it's PRE-PARED?!

Rocky is doing some adorable face-work.

I wouldn't be offended if the shorts were a little smaller, but we are on network...

You got your wish, booty-shorts for Rocky for the floor show.

It's like the kids from Disney Channel decided to put on a version of Rocky Horror.

Also, Tim Curry is making me sad. I know he's getting better, but it's still hard to see him like this.

OK, Lavern Cox's Esther Williams look is the best one she's had in this whole thing.

And God bless Lili St. Cyr.

Hey I'll take what I can get. Also Brad in the fishnets FTW, but I'm sorry, Barry Bostwick had some GREAT legs.

I'm glad Tim was well enough to sign on. My mom was his age and had her stroke about the same time he had his; she never really got better and passed away last year, and here he is, performing and making people smile.

A plethora of fishnets.

Exactly. I was in my college show for four years and watched it innumerable times, and sometime in the second half, despite the complete magnetism of Frank at the outset, I always got the strong impression that he had terrible breath.

Do aliens even have the same dental needs as humans? I just don't know.

As someone who used to dress up and go see the original semi-weekly, I found this entertaining and inoffensive. The way they made Laverne Cox up to look a bit like Tim Curry was interesting. I think that Annaleigh Ashford as Columbia was the standout; she really believably inhabited the character while still doing something original with the performance. Adam Lambert will never be Meat Loaf but at least he didn't totally ruin the song. However, if Ben Vereen has any ability as a singer, I saw no evidence of it tonight. His rendition of Eddie's Teddy was one of the worst things I've ever heard and he ran his line in Rose Tint My World straight into a wall, too.

I could see watching this again at some point but it will in no way replace the original for me. It was nice to be pandered to as a member of this particular fandom for a change, though. Best moment of the night: "I hope it's not Meat Loaf again."

I'll give them this, their Rocky had a much better grasp of physical comedy.

(This Brad and Rocky had so much chemistry they looked like they were about to rip off each other's singlets. )
