I was a little bemused at the Australian reporters giving Elizabeth a break after catching her spat on film, wondering when Rupert Murdoch's tabloidization of the media would have made that scene completely implausible.

Loved that shot of the Queen Mother & friends on horseback racing along the Scottish shoreline, so gorgeous.

Margaret's small speech at the end about how she and Elizabeth envy each other was terrific. Really the whole scene was.

I think at a certain point there was a lot of deference given to the royals though, right? In the press? Or is that just my impression of how it was which is not accurate?

Seems accurate - otherwise why would the reporter in the "Gelignite" episode have had to convince his editor that the Princess Margaret/Peter Townsend story was newsworthy? It's just that considering what a cancer on the world Rupert Murdoch is, and how the NOTW phone hacking investigation revealed that they'd hacked into the Royal phones too, there's just something especially sad/funny/ironic to me about having the Australian reporter respecting Elizabeth & Philip's privacy.

Enjoyed seeing a mountain range transplanted to Bermuda.

I most liked the scenes where the Queen Mother is arranging to buy the moldering castle in Scotland. She did restore it according to Wikipedia and visited twice a year until her death. It's now open to the public.

I got such a fit of the giggles during the scene in which Elizabeth is having her face injected with a muscle relaxant to help hide the strain of constant smiling while Philip is complaining that he's finding himself waving in his sleep.

Yes, the delivery on that hand-waving bit was perfect. I had to pause until I quit laughing.

Elizabeth R: the first one with "resting bitch face" and Botox. The "waving in my sleep" was a hoot. How quaint that someone would be polite to give up the film of something bad. Can't imagine it now.

Poor Margaret: really needed to be on the stage.

I nth that the whole castle buying thing was a quiet hoot.
