How the heck is Quentin going to get back into living in the "real" world? Does he still have a bank account? Does he even have any identification? Did he leave his wallet at Brakebills?

These are all things I though after watching this episode. But first I thought "why throw away your bow and arrows, when you could pawn them? You need money now, unless you're going to magic your way through life now."

This episode made me feel like I was missing something by not having read the books. Which I keep meaning to hunt down from the library..

While the books are fun, they're not much help here. Yes, there are some longer story lines that might track through the show, and some characters have more backstory in the books that may ground you more, but they're mostly additional details from my point of view.

In short, the show diverges enough from the books that it's fun to pick up threads that are woven into the story, but not critical for understanding the show.

No, you were missing something because this episode lacked a lot of exposition. But also it's only the 4th episode.

From the first season I got the sense that this show likes to just emotionally string you along with no explanation, because it's always putting you in the perspective of those who lack knowledge, in some form or other, having to figure stuff out. Magic is like puzzle solving, and so is this show.
