Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner
April 26, 2017 6:56 PM - Season 4, Episode 10 - Subscribe

So, what's up in the world?
  • "We begin with A Narcissistic, Unstable Man Who Just Might Kill Us All." In this case, that means Trump and Kim Jong-un, between whom tensions have been racheting up lately. Trump "sends" and "armada" to deter North Korea, although it turns out the weren't heading right there, but instead going to Austrailia.
  • Turkey President Recep Erdoğan consolidates power with a referrendum that takes him closer to being a dictator.
  • And Now: Cable News. (It's a lot of arguing and people talking over each over, sometimes up to 10 at once.)
  • Main story: Trump's advisors and relatives Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, popularly regarded as moderating influences. LWT takes a closer look and notes that we we really know little about them, and what we do know suggests Ivanka is more about preserving the Trump brand, and Jared is an underachiever, extremely inexperienced, and is ludicrously in over his head. YouTube (22m)
  • And Finally: Bill O'Reilly: A Life In Television.

F. 37: Non Factor, BILL O'REILLY

The cable news arguing segment was downright painful.

It WAS, so painful I considered putting the words Cable News in Zalgo-text.

Jared is an underachiever, extremely inexperienced, and is ludicrously in over his head.

Now that's someone that I can identify with.

Things from this episode:

- Man, and I thought PTI back in the day could be a mess sometimes. At least they used to wait for their turn or shout in pairs. I guess that's the trick to have people opposed to the network main line of thought without actually giving them any actual air time.
- There's still any people left thinking Ivanka is some sort of liberal moderating force because, what, she's a pretty woman? She might even be more liberal-minded than the rest of her family on some issues, but she's not going to harm her own bottom line by alienating them.
- So, Kushner is doing all the shit Donny doesn't want to do because it's not glamorous and is afraid can go very very wrong?

Kushner scares me. I've been coping with the knowledge that the garbage fire-in-chief is incompetent, but it's hard to accept that his factotum son-in-law has fewer qualifications and less experience than I do. He isn't even older. And of course I would be terrible at, y'know, everything Kushner has been assigned.

Though I suppose being able to keep his mouth shut is some kind of skill.

In making the post, I regret forgetting to include my favorite moment, that brilliant moment where they play Kushner's "voice."

When he started going in the direction of "have you ever heard him speak", I immediately assumed he'd get someone with an obnoxious voice to dub over him. I think he did that before.

Not that it makes it less funny.

Yeah the voice joke killed me for a good thirty seconds. I straight up had to fast forward through about half of O'Reillys racism and sexism and general garbage. I'm so glad he's gone.
