OK, so why exactly did they have to use explosives to knock down the door, instead of rolling some kind of gas canister through the air shaft?
And why was nobody guarding a human-sized air shaft with very easy access? Couldn't Jack have used that as a way OUT of the room? Or did it just lead to the hallway immediately around the corner and nowhere else in the building? I mean, look at the size of it... Kate could almost have duckwalked her way through that thing.
I'm sure the guy who basically screwed over Jack at the entranceway is totally trustworthy to provide special software that will in no way be used against Jack or result in the data either being destroyed or put in the hands of people Jack's working against. Odds he's actually in on it, and hoping to destroy any evidence the drones can be hacked? Yeah, this is 24, so...

Gas gives Known Terrorist Jack Bauer time to kill people, plus it doesn't get them in the door without blowing it up anyway (I think; I'm not sure whether it was hard-locked from the inside), plus they may or may not have gas available. Embassy armories are very thoroughly negotiated in the real world and are universally not as much as the Marine Security Detachment wants, so there's little chance that they could prove a need for knockout gas. However, explosives are justifiable because they can be used for destruction of classified material and equipment, which is technically the MSD's primary job, not defense of the embassy.

Best episode of the season so far - felt like classic 24. I liked the AV Club's take in that the story backed Bauer (literally) into a corner, which always produces interesting results. Hopefully they can keep the pace up given there's only eight more eps.

Yup, continues the preposterous and infuriating yet somehow lovable let's-not-trust-Jack-despite-the-fact-that-he-has-ALWAYS-ALWAYS-been right trope that is in every season of 24.

This is finally starting to feel like 24 is finding its legs. Classic jack was "You'll need to find an access card" "I've already got one."

I like to think that Jack Bauer mostly is this crazy-ass fuckup who's constantly spouting weird conspiracy shit but is also really good at the kicking-in-doors-and-shooting-people parts of the job. We only see the one day every couple of years that he's right.

It seems pretty obvious to me that Adrian's "decryption" program will come back later. I'm guessing that it'll end up being a new backdoor into the Embassy's computer system, which Navarro will find out about juuust when he was about to start trusting Jack.
Best line of the night: "Because I fired the bullets." Perfect and eye-rolly (from both sides) all in one.
