Peaky Blinders

The first season is available on Netflix. Anyone up for a discussion?

British Crimers with similar haircuts! Communist agitators! Sam Neil with a mustache! A somewhat distracting obsession with Jack White! What's not to love?

I watched the first ep. I was so-so on it, but can see the potential. I'd probably be down for at least the first few episodes.

A somewhat distracting obsession with Jack White!

The second series that has just started on the bbc is almost wall-to-wall PJ Harvey on the soundtrack. Poor old Jack White's been abandoned

I also wasn't sold on the first ep but I'm willing to give it another go for at least the first season.

(Now that's made me recall Ripper Street. I hope that has been renewed.)

A new series of Ripper Street is being made, but by Amazon for some reason rather than the BBC.

I liked the first series of Peaky Blinders quite a lot. It suffers a bit of an excessive sense of style, but there's some fun writing and some really enjoyable performances, especially Sam Neil impersonating Liam Neeson.

I plan to sit down with a friend and watch it sometime soon, so I'm potentially interested in a discussion.

I'm game for this. My wife and I have been all over the first two episodes. I look forward to seeing where this goes.

I watched some of the first episode last night and had a flashback to SNL's Don' You Go Rounin' Roun' to Re Ro sketch. I'm going to have to try it again with captions.

If this show does get discussed, I have a question from episode one about how a certain something was convincingly achieved...

It won't. Just ask the question anyway. You could also post in Askme instead of this thread.

Okay, is it explained (perhaps later) how the killing of the PTSD guy was faked? I can understand blanks, or shooting a metal plate on the back of the guys coat or something, but how'd the blood splash back on Thomas’s face?

They put pig brains and gunpowder into a packet. The explosion sent the brains flying, including splashback, and was, as I recall, concussive enough to knock out whizzbang, or whatever his name was, but not kill him.

I have to tell you all, the second season gets even better, regardless of the Jack White thing.

Two words: Tom Hardy.

dropping by to note S03 was pretty fun, too, what with crazy Russians and Tom Hardy chewing the scenery again for a couple episodes.
