Will Cooper has been so focused on raising his daughter, Sophie, he's lost sight of who he is as a man and has headed deep into the parental vortex. When the other single parents - Angie, Douglas, Poppy and Jake - at his daughter's school see just how far down the rabbit hole of PTA, parenting and princesses Will has gone, they band together to get him out in the world and make him realize that being a great parent doesn't mean sacrificing everything about your own identity.

AV Club interview - Single Parents’ creators on bringing some Fox edge to an ABC family comedy
Variety review - "And even when “Single Parents” stumbles, it’s refreshing to see a comedy that acknowledges a different experience than most hangout sitcoms do. These characters are neither the dating singletons nor settled families that tend to define comedies, but floating somewhere in between. There’s plenty of material there; hopefully, with a strong cast and writing team behind it, “Single Parents” can tap into it and find a specific groove all its own."

It's the first new show of the new TV season that I've caught and while I can't see myself posting about it on a weekly basis, I'm sure it will be a fine way to fill the 30 minutes after Modern Family.
I agree with you there are at least a few strong cast members, and the scenario sets up well for a long-running sitcom, so it will be up to the production team to see if they can make it stick.

Oh, me neither - I mean, I think it's especially difficult for sitcoms to generate weekly discussions unless it's something unique like 'The Good Place'. (And, I'm not planning on continuing to spam Fanfare with weekly threads for every new network offering, I just like checking out all the pilots, and for the bad ones posting a thread afterwards makes it not feel like a complete waste of time as at least I'm serving as the canary in the coal mine for some other mefite :-)

I like that approach. I've often found shows to watch based on FanFare posts, so this will actually be helpful in perhaps getting me to look at shows I would have otherwise skipped. Honestly, taking a quick glance at the offerings, this new season pretty much looks like a bust from my point of view.
Thanks for giving us a means of discussing the new stuff. Very good work! :)

I've tried a few of the fall pilots and this is the first one where I'm planning to watch the next episode. It was actually funny. That's hard to manage in a pilot. The kids were a little too adorable (I normally avoid kid shows) so we'll see if I can get used to it or not.
Also, I fully support doing threads for all the pilots; thanks for doing that.

This was so bad and so funny. I’m really not sure what the sneakerbro has to do with the rest of the group, but I’m willing to see. I loved all the kid interactions (especially the disgusting gum scene!) and as long as they don’t introduce any of our main cast sleeping together as a conflict point, I’ll be okay.
