Tales of Halloween (2015)

Ten stories are woven together by their shared theme of Halloween night in an American suburb, where ghouls, imps, aliens and axe murderers appear for one night only to terrorize unsuspecting residents. With segments by Lucky McKee (The Woman), Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV), and Neil Marshall (The Descent), among others.

Like every anthology, this hit or miss. The short length of each segment makes the stinkers easier to bear.

I am still trying to figure out what the hell to think about the Lucky McKee/Pollyanna McIntosh segment.

When I first saw Jadis in the Walking Dead, I thought “where have I seen her before?” Turned out it was in this! She was great even if the segment was not.

I thought this anthology was more miss than hit, though I appreciate that some of the segments went unapologetically batshit bonkers. (Barry Bostwick gleefully chewing up the scenery, the segment with the aliens, Neil Marshall’s capper.) In the end, though, I preferred Trick ‘r Treat for my Halloween horror anthology needs.
