American Gods: House on the Rock   Books Included
March 11, 2019 6:33 PM - Season 2, Episode 1 - Subscribe

Following the epic showdown at Easter's party, Mr. Wednesday continues his quest to pitch the case for war to the Old Gods. Meanwhile, Mr. World plans revenge and Technical Boy goes on the hunt for Media. [Starz]

Season 2 Trailer (US only, apparently!!)

The Verge, Samantha Nelson: "Conflicts about the show’s budget and adherence to Gaiman’s story led showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green to leave after season 1, which led to the loss of standout cast members Gillian Anderson and Kristin Chenoweth. Gaiman chose Jesse Alexander to take over as showrunner, but he was 'exiled' from the show last fall, and Starz still hasn’t named a successor."

Ugh, just let the women be fat. Easter is supposed to be plump. Mama Ji is meant to be plump. Can we just have some fat goddesses? Are we allowed? Cowards.

And ooooooooooh fuck them hard for fridging Zorya Vechernyaya. Hollow pitiable attempt to motivate Wednesday, a god who would kill himself to further his aims.

*checks to make sure this is the *books included* post

I thought that was .... interesting. I wasn't keen on the the shooting being any one other than Wednesday; it was so pivotal in the book and really defined the larger game.

It felt rather like trimming the (admittedly convoluted and perhaps uneccessary) men-in-black subplot and losing this eventual reveal as collateral damage.

The show seems too in love with Ian McShane as Wednesday to give him a full villain turn.... but who knows who'll even be running theshow by the time they make it to the end game if they even do.

Yeah, I feel honestly somewhat cheated. It’s clear they think that the other actors can’t carry the show without McShane- they may be right, but I still hate “idk, kill the disposable woman”.

Something occurred to me watching S2E1 last night, which I need to go back and re-watch. Cloris Leachman is nearly 93. I don't think she was standing in any of the shots - how is her health? I wondered if she was written out because she's not in great health. I hope that's not the case, she's wonderful and I hope she's hale and hearty well past 100, but that might explain why they "fridged" her here.

I hope Cloris Leachman's ghost crop-dusts the producers for the rest of their lives if she dies.

Isn't one really hardcore omnipresent dead wife/woman joke enough?!

Anyway. Perhaps this will extend the Czernobog vs. Shadow storyline a bit, so we can watch Peter Stormare smoke like he's performing fellatio while ranting about vengeance. I'm kind of OK with that.

This episode did not fill me with hope for the upcoming season.

But at least now I really want to go to House on the Rock so not a total loss?
