Unable to deal with her parents, Jeannie Tyne runs away from home. Larry and Lyne Tyne search for her, and in the process meet other people whose children ran away. With their children gone, the parents are now free to rediscover/enjoy life.

Milos Forman's first US movie, and the very first credit for the wonderful Georgia Engel, who died last Friday. This movie is a real slice of time, all about hippie runaways and their families' various coping strategies. Not at all corny or earnest.

A panoply of future character actors fill out the cast: Buck Henry, Audra Lindley, Paul Benedict, Vincent Schiavelli, Allen Garfield and a 23 year old Kathy "Bobo" Bates in her first film credit. Ike and Tina Turner also make an appearance.

And a then pretty-much-unknown Carly Simon in a singing audition scene.
