Mulder asks to be assigned to a case involving a little girl's disappearance from her bedroom, and in which the only clue is a note ending in the words, "No one shoots at Santa Claus", which was written by the child's mother in a trance-like state at the moment of the abduction.

The idea of a child's mother having a moment of psychic connection with the predator at the moment of the child's abduction is beyond freaky and I wish it had been better handled than it is in this two-parter.

Amber Lynn was abducted *the day after* she visited Santa's ranch, and no one made the connection between that and the "no one shoots at Santa Claus" note?

No one thought of the previous "no one shoots at Santa Claus" connection but Mulder? There weren't other similar cases given all the children Ed Truelove had taken? There weren't detectives working the case of a serial child killer? Seems to me everyone's haring off on ridiculous theories rather than doing some good old-fashioned police work.

Mulder, Scully, and Skinner didn't have a warrant when they entered Truelove's office and looked at his videocassettes, and did they therefore have grounds for an arrest?

Teena Mulder's sudden suicide seems so cruel of her -- she was still physically and mentally able to be up and about but couldn't at least take time to tell her son whatever it was she wanted to tell him? -- but then I must admit it's consistent with her parenting since Samantha was taken. She knew things, but let her son spend his life on a wild goose chase trying to find answers rather than talk to him openly and honestly.

Heh, Chris Carter pluggin his 'Harsh Realms' series.

Billie LaPierre being in bed by 9:30 feels odd, but I guess that was consistent with being psychically taken over.

Seems out of character that Mulder is so willing to entertain that Samantha was not abducted by aliens.

Good catch on the lack of warrant; the video would be inadmissible, but the suspect fled ("resisted arrest"), resulting in probable cause, and led Federal law enforcement to physical evidence (buried bodies), which would be admissible and wouldn't need the video evidence?

I guess once the bodies were found, appropriate warrants could be bench issued to investigate the other video tapes?

Very strange decision to write Teena's suicide at this time.

Paget's is unpleasant, but the 10 year survival is very high. Like 80-90%.

One of Diazepam's (valium) more rare side effects is depression, it can be habit forming, and can cause long-term cognitive especially in the elderly. The LD50 in rats is 1240mg/ kg so a 75 kg woman would need to take 93 grams of it (but rats metabolize it a lot faster than humans); however, respiratory depression can be boosted if taken with alcohol. 2 grams in humans (by itself) is not lethal but induces short term comas. A high end therapeutic dose is 10 mg, so 2 grams is on the order of 200 pills.

Both Scully and Mulder's hair has really evolves this season.

I liked that when carpooling, Mulder took the backseat (despite Scully's short legs).

Maybe Teena decided that she'd been in enough pain in her life and felt she reached critical mass when she was diagnosed. I still think she should have been much more considerate of her son, but then she and Bill had checked out as parents after Samantha was taken.

I notice he sat behind Scully, not Skinner. She likely would have moved her seat forward to give him more leg room.

Mulder is always ready to go where the evidence leads him, even if it's wildly improbable.

Scully's cut is very stylish, but I don't like it on her. It's too short. She looks better with a little more hair. I'm not thrilled with Mulder's either, though at least it's better than his season 2 hair.
