Holidate (2020)

Well, holiday tv-movie season has kicked off on Netflix (not to mention the Hallmark Channel 'Countdown to Christmas' lineup, which probably deserves a Fanfare Talk thread of its own), starting with this one.

Anyway, I thought this was good dumb fun. Nothing that hasn't been done before and better, and I can't really disagree with the Hollywood Reporter slam of Sloane being "the Cool Girl personified", but still, it worked for me.

I am obsessed with how many times the following happened in this movie:

Character A: what I need is a holidate!
Character B: what is a holidate???

THIS QUESTION NEVER NEEDS TO BE ASKED! IT IS COMPLETELY OBVIOUS!

I AM LIVID.

spoiler alert it was obvious what was going to happen at the end in the mall when she was trying to get his attention but nevertheless when the whole choir sang "Dwaaaaaayne!" or whatever his name was--I saw this two days ago but I forgot already--I got all teary-eyed. This is because I desperately, desperately need to go somewhere other than to the mailbox and I need to do something other than work and watch Netflix. Are you curious about whether you have become dangerously isolated and are slowly losing your mind but you can't afford to zoom a therapist? Watch this movie and if you get invested and care at all what happens to the characters don't wait act now make a plan.
