Exterminate All the Brutes: Part One
April 12, 2021 12:54 PM - Season 1, Episode 1 - Subscribe

Exterminate All the Brutes, from acclaimed filmmaker Raoul Peck (I Am Not Your Negro, HBO’s Sometimes in April), is a four-part hybrid docuseries that provides a visually arresting journey through time, into the darkest hours of humanity. Through his personal voyage, Peck deconstructs the making and masking of history, digging deep into the exploitative and genocidal aspects of European colonialism — from America to Africa and its impact on society today. Was surprised it wasn't already on here. First episode was really incredible.

Also for those who are reticent.

I don't watch documentaries. I especially don't watch super traumatic documentaries.

This one is upsetting and bleak, but fascinating. The tone of the trailer captures it quite well. Raoul Peck's voice and imagery are just electric and engrossing.

I hate to use the term entertaining, but I cannot think of anything else. I watch while I exercise, and have to force myself to turn it off for the next day. (I'm on episode 2, "Who the fuck is Columbus?")
