Ava: [notices Sam sneaking by the window] Oh! Crap!
Dr. Waxler: What?
Ava: [covering] I just remembered that when I was a kid I swallowed like eight things of Pop Rocks and then drank a whole can of Coke. You don't think that counts as a suicide attempt, do you?

Dean Winchester: [Dean spots Sam through a motel window] Oh, thank God you're okay.
Sam: [moves to reveal Ava]
Dean: Oh, you're better than okay! Sam, you sly dog.

Dean: Come on man. I know Sam, ok? Better than anyone. He's got more of a conscience than I do. I mean the guy feels guilty searching the internet for porn.

Dean: Well, you are a son of a bitch.
Gordon Walker: [punches Dean] That's my momma you're talking about.

Sam: [is holding a gun on Gordon]
Gordon: Do it. Do it, Sammy! Show your brother what a killer you are!
Sam: [knocks Gordon out with the butt end of the gun] It's SAM.

Dean: [learning Sam has called the police on Gordon] You're a fine upstanding citizen, Sam.

Dean and Sam have a code word for when they are in trouble and can't speak freely, "Funkytown", but it only gets used in this one episode. They have another one later on.

When Sam leaves part of a draft glass of beer on the bar, Ash promptly takes it and drinks it.

Eva the secretary from Peoria is a fun character. She's not some combat-trained hunter who is tuned into whatever's going on, but a bright but ordinary young woman, in way over her head with no special resources to rely on, trying to cope with a bizarre situation and to figure things out as best she can.

Dean really shouldn't have assumed Ellen told Gordon where Sam was. He tends to fly off the handle when he thinks anyone's crossed him in any way -- he doesn't really trust anyone but Sam.

John knew more about Yellow Eyes than he told his sons. For that matter there seems to have been a LOT he didn't tell them -- you can see where Dean got his tendency to keep things to himself -- and his policy of never explaining anything to them was a terrible one. He may have meant to protect them, but the thing is he actually endangered Sam and Dean because they don't know what to guard against. They also should have been put in touch with the network of hunters he knows. His sons were grown men, and highly intelligent and capable ones at that. For all the skills he taught them, he failed them by not realizing that they needed to be treated as hunters and not as children.

Ginger Snaps fans will recognize Ava as Katharine Isabelle, who played the lead role and is generally great.

Ava is an excellent character and the actress carries off her small but significant arc really well. There's a whole history in what happens to her that she conveys well, of a life lived and the consequences - she seem to have the apple pie life Sam craved, but she and Sam both never really did right from six months old or earlier.
