Black Sun

The first book in the Between Earth and Sky trilogy inspired by the civilizations of the Pre-Columbian Americas and woven into a tale of celestial prophecies, political intrigue, and forbidden magic.

I really enjoyed this - it's nice to get a new non euro-centric fantasy; the plot is compelling and the characters are vibrant. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

I enjoyed Roanhorse's previous series, glad to hear there's something new from her.

I couldn't get into her earlier books, but the very vivid first chapter got me interested enough to make it through to having a feeling for the shape of this book, and I ended up really liking it and disappointed there's such a wait for number 2.

I liked this one so much more than Trail of Lightning - the worldbuilding and characterization was fantastic.

Funnily enough, I am the opposite. I enjoyed Trail of Lightning, even though the writing felt less polished that in this one. Black Sun just didn't feel like it came together as a story.
