FBoy Island: Season 1
August 15, 2021 4:09 PM - Season 1 (Full Season) - Subscribe
Three women move to a tropical island where they’re joined by 24 men – 12 self-proclaimed “Nice Guys” looking for love, and 12 self-proclaimed “FBoys,” there to compete for cold, hard cash. Hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, created by former Bachelor Executive Producer Elan Gale. On HBO.
schroedinger, I loved this show, as someone who watches The Bachelor* and loves it but also rolls my eyes through it.
My sense of FBoy Island is that there was less(?) manipulation by producers (the producers don't have to convince contestants to get engaged) and the 3 female leads were allies rather than being played against each other. The show explores what "nice guy" really means, what "fuckboy" really means, why do we want what we want, etc. Nikki Glaser is also hilarious.
There is also a SUPER diverse (and photogenic!) cast, and there are so many twists along the way. It's very aware of reality show tropes and subverts some of them. If this sounds fun to you, the first episode is on YouTube but DON'T GOOGLE ANYTHING about the show because I inadvertently saw spoilers online before finishing. :(
* I've been taking a break recently though, the way BIPOC contestants and leads are edited is distasteful and the pandemic "pod" seasons have been disappointing

I liked the bits where they got rid of men, but the fundamental premise of the show seems to require that some of those men succeed and I didn't want any of them to do that. If only episode 1 is on youtube, I don't think I'm going to put in the effort to figure out what HBO Max is to watch the others.

Might want to stick it out if that's your hangup. Not claiming everything turns out to become a perfectly satisfying ending, but I wouldn't hang this up on the show.

I watch it with a lot of double-taps (skip ten seconds forward) but it’s pretty entertaining. Masculine dominance hierarchies are hilarious. I’m secretly hoping it’s actually been all about three women who each want to have an MMF threesome.

Also the clothes… like, CJ’s tops are a survey course in unusual boob angles. There’s cleavage, side boob, under boob, ¾ boob, south-by-southwest boob…
