This post was not the beginning: Moiraine and Lan lead the four villagers to safety, unsure which is the one from the prophecy. But the friends are equally unsure about their rescuers, especially once they see how far Moiraine is willing to go for her mission – and how far astray Lan is willing to lead them.

I really appreciate how the show is speeding up some of the character development for Perrin and Mat to get them to a more complex, interesting place faster. What that means for their future arcs, I’m not sure, but I think it’s smart from a “getting a new audience to care about these people” perspective.

Better episode!

The special effects are pretty bad, but as a child of 80s/90s fantasy and sci-fi, I feel right at home with goofy-looking shit.

One thing I saw from one of the earlier threads is that the four have been aged up from the show, which I think explains some of the weird choices and why say Rand and Egwene are sleeping together and why they gave Perrin a wife, because it’s reasonable that people not be partnered off seriously when they’re all 16, but it’s less reasonable when they’re all over 18 in a small town.

I still share concerns about kind of the grimdark way they seem to be taking some of the backstory, but it at least makes somewhat more sense.

Another thing I just noticed/thought about which is a bonus to this sort of thing is the way they're really able to put a lot of threads together - for example, the 'Manetheren' song being sung and then the explanation about the queen of Manetheren being an Aes Sedai and seeing her husband fall and burning herself out killing the Trollocs has a LOT of foreshadowing for the future.
