Fangirl

In Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life--and she's really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it's what got them through their mother leaving.

I'm not finished this one yet, but I realize now that I should have read it prior to the Simon Snow novels. Everything makes a lot more sense now.

I read this after reading and enjoying Eleanor and Park, and mostly liked it. My days in fandom were not as intense, and I'm a lot older than the characters, but it was still interesting reading about the relationship with the sisters and how they related to fandom.

It was weird, because I'm living in the city where it's set, that I found the setting kind of generic university. I didn't feel that it had much of a sense of place at all.
