The Power (2021)

London, 1974. As Britain prepares for electrical blackouts to sweep across the country, trainee nurse Val arrives for her first day at the crumbling East London Royal Infirmary. With most of the patients and staff evacuated to another hospital, Val is forced to work the night shift, finding herself in a dark, near empty building. Within these walls lies a deadly secret, forcing Val to face both her own traumatic past and deepest fears.

I am increasingly grateful for the curated aspect of Shudder. If a person enjoys under-the-radar horror movies, they need only play the newest featured selections and those are just about guaranteed to be pretty good.

This is a little slow starting. And in the end, it's a Something Bad Once Happened Here and This Place Is Cursed movie. But the period detail is terrific. I feel like if poor Val had finished nursing school five years earlier, she'd have joined the crew at Call the Midwife instead of being haunted.
