Joseph (Devon Sawa) and his family live in the remote wilderness as fur trappers, but their tranquility is threatened when they think they are being hunted by the return of a rogue wolf, and Joseph leaves them behind to track it.

Rated 94% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Currently streaming in the US on Hulu.

There is an interesting split in this movie's reviews: 94% fresh on RT, but only a 61% rating on Metacritic. And honestly, that's about right. This is definitely fairly good, but it would hard to sincerely argue it is great. A person's reaction will probably be calibrated based on how interesting they find the premise of an in-the-wrong-time trapper family, how well they like Devon Sawa, and how they feel about the newly sober Nick Stahl returning to film.

I like Sawa and Stahl and the trapper thing was mildly interesting. Not essential and the plot was pretty easy to see coming once Joseph found the bodies, but I don't regret the time.

Side note: this is more of a thriller than a horror movie... until the ending, where it is most definitely a horror movie. Brutal fucking ending.

I really enjoyed this until the last 10-15 minutes and then it just ran out of steam and went as brutal and bleak as possible for no apparent reason. There was no real point to any of it, the story didn't end up being about anything and even the character development culminated in a way that didn't tie back to the majority of the story.

I love a bleak horror movie but this didn't feel earned. Which is a shame because the setting and initial premise felt unique.
