When I saw this movie, my admiration for Danny DeVito went way up. This is excellent directing.

This is the BEST Roald Dahl adaptation of all time. Fight me, Wonka Nerds!

This movie holds up really well, not least because Mara Wilson has held up so well.

I like this essay Wilson wrote a couple of years ago, imagining what Matilda might be like at 30.

Also the fact that Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman took such care with Wilson, both on set and after her mother died, makes it easier to watch their characters be ludicrously horrible to Matilda.

As you probably know, the book was also made into a Broadway musical and that musical is now coming to Netflix.
