The Sydney seagulls all shouting "Mate! Mate! Mate!" was genius.

They’re shouting “mine” though.

The response from the seagulls is equally priceless: “SHUT UP! YOU’RE RATS WITH WINGS!”

According to the film's director, you're right. Huh. I still insist, however, that Aussie seagulls shouting "Mate!" is funny, while shouting "Mine!" is not.

I saw this years ago, and I did rather enjoy it (the vegetarian sharks were a hilarious send-up of self-help culture), but the main reason I was glad that I saw it was that it made it possible for me to have a great moment with my niece Peaches Swan when she was about six.

She had a clown fish, and then her older sister bought her a second, larger fish for her birthday. She was glad to get Fish No. 2, but she looked at it and said worriedly, "I wonder if he eats clown fish."

I said, "You'll just have to tell him, 'Fish are friends, not food!'" Peaches went off into a fit of the giggles and I enjoyed my (rare) moment as a Cool Aunt.
