TRAILER Adam Carlson (John Krasinski), a reporter based in a small town in northern Alaska, can't wait to land a job in a bigger market. Then, the story of a lifetime practically lands in his lap: a family of gray whales is discovered near the Arctic Circle, trapped by rapidly forming ice. Along with the descending media comes Rachel Kramer (Drew Barrymore), an environmental activist and Adam's ex. Together, they try to rally an international coalition to save the whales before it's too late.

Also starring Kristen Bell, Vinessa Shaw, Dermot Mulroney, Ted Danson, Kathy Baker, Tim Blake Nelson, Stephen Root, James Le Gros.

Directed by Ken Kwapis. Screenplay by Jack Amiel, Michael Begler, adapted from the nonfiction book Freeing the Whales: How the Media Created the World's Greatest Non-Event by Tom Rose.

This is a big floofy Hollywood movie, but it's pretty entertaining within that sphere.

File it under "things to watch with kids or your folks that won't make you pull your hair out."
