I miss Madmartigan (he's written out as having gone on a quest and never returned), but I also kinda hope they don't bring Val Kilmer onto the show. I guess they could write that he got very injured into the show, but...I dunno, maybe I'd just rather remember him as is or have him recast.

Arik, you're so fickle you had to make up a name for your girlfriend. Sigh.

I am brutally disappointed that the redhead is NOT Elora Danan, but a blonde. I always liked Elora's red hair. She briefly looked red-ish when she went through that barrier...thing?

Nice to see some casual lady-kissing in Disney.

The fiance guy seems dull but nice? Maybe just super shy? I kinda suspect gay as well?

Yay, new Willow!

Good casting for Airk, he does look a bit like young Val Kilmer. (And it took me until the end of the episode to remember why the name Airk was so familiar, that Madmardigan named his son after his old friend who died at the battle of Tir Asleen.)

I know there are practical reasons why Disney can’t cast Devery Jacobs as Elora Danan but I still really want her to make a guest appearance on this show.

The current word is that Kilmer was ready to come back, but then the pandemic hit and he couldn't travel to Britain for the filming. The writers purposefully created a vague mystery about his absence, I think, entirely on the idea that maybe if there's a season two, Val will be able to participate. One of the producers, writers, I can't remember, shared that Kilmer actually picked them off the ground or something to show that he was well enough to swing a sword again.

He speaks briefly about Willow in his biographical Val (which is enjoyable, btw), and how he definitely loved doing it, but also felt it hit his career pretty hard, too, when it was less of a success. On top of that, it lead to him marrying Joanne Whalley...his costar, and then that divorce kind of also ruined him financially, too.

I kept hoping that Muffingirl was just another fake-out (Sorsha having learned from the best), because I kept hearing about "the twist reveal in episode 1", and surely Muffingirl was way too obvious to be a twist reveal.

Apparently not. :(

My understanding from watching "Val" was that it was having to pay off the real estate boondoggles his father did in Kilmer's name that was the biggest financial hit, but given the choice of getting his dad sent to prison for the theft versus losing a significant fortune, he chose to eat the loss. Whatever financial hit he took in the divorce, he got two children he clearly adores out of the marriage, I didn't get the impression that he regretted doing the movie.

While the costumes aren't S-grade or even A-grade, I am loving the artistry of some of the costumes.

I think there might have been a bit of "shiny vs matte" outfit changes.

The nbd ethnic casting is refreshing.
