When attorney Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte) knowingly withholds evidence that would acquit violent sex offender Max Cady (Robert De Niro) of rape charges, Max spends 14 years in prison. But after Max's release, knowing about Sam's deceit, he devotes his life to stalking and destroying the Bowden family. When practical attempts to stop Max fail, Sam realizes that he must act outside the law to protect his wife and daughter.

I sure do remember that one scene with Juliette Lewis and De Niro. That was one of the creepiest things I've ever seen.

Ivan Fyodorvich, I think that was the moment I came this --> <-- close to walking out of the theater. I was really disturbed by it.

Yeah. As violent as many of Scorsese's other movies are, this is the only one on the "do not rewatch" list for me. (Which is not to say that it's bad.)

Yup. It's a great film - with tension oozing out of every frame, but the assault scene with Illeana Douglas is as unwatchable now as it was then. I can't re-visit it. I'll stick with the Simpsons version.
Freddie Francis was the cinematographer. He worked with David Lynch!
