Just absolutely loved this movie. It is so innovative formally, yet deeply modest. It has a humility, a humor, a curiosity, a vision. An anti-slickness but also an aesthetic vision. Been reading through a few interviews with RaMell Ross and he uses this phrase, "the epic banal" which, reading that, is a thing that I am so drawn to in film. Visually, this is so the work of a photographer. Still frames where each element holds equal weight, and where are you given time to float over the images. Somehow the style has that equalizing effect on the people and themes of the film too.
