Pretty Little Liars: Oh, What Hard Luck Stories They All Hand Me
February 4, 2015 7:59 AM - Season 5, Episode 18 - Subscribe

The Liars have been burned before by newcomers to Rosewood, so it’s no surprise the four ladies are wary when Mona's friend Lesli comes to town. Hanna is tasked to get Lesli's story and find out if she is really who she says she is. Spencer lets down her guard a bit as she spends more time with Jonny, and Emily continues to try and figure out Talia. Meanwhile, Aria becomes concerned about Mike’s recent behavior and Holbrook returns to town.

I am SO excited for the Chekhov's gun that is the secrets/whispers machine. That is definitely going to pay off.

That is going to be amazing! I'm less concerned about Emily's new romantic interest than I was initially; she seemed a bit younger in this episode and if Emily's actually into it then the whole thing is way more appropriate.

I wonder what's up with Mike? I get the official PLL texts so I knew ahead of time that he had some sort of secret but I still don't know what.

I continue to hate Jonny.

Oh God also Holbrook's back! Wow! Shit's getting real! I have to say, you'd think by now Hannah would know enough not to get out of the car during a traffic stop without explicit directions from a cop, one who hasn't just been suspended. Seriously Hannah, you are smarter than this.

I also noticed that both Mike and Holbrook had similar new haircuts (both of which I hate) and a guy in my jiu jitsu class had a similar one (shaved sides, long on top) so I guess that's what's in now and I hate it.

Jonny is the worst. His secret machine will no doubt be amazing, but he can just fuck right off. The WORST.

I'm super curious to know what Mike is doing with Ali, although he looks super suspicious which usually means there's nothing there. I'm also psyched that Holbrooke's back and super intrigued to hear that Tanner might be the real problem. Holbrooke is still super sleazy, and Hanna should NOT have gotten out at his traffic stop. Honestly, Rosewood is not a place to be pulling over in the woods, even for legitimate cops. Take the flee and eluding, Hanna! It's better than Certain Death.

The haircut is called an undercut and it's been trendy for a while now, yeah. The foundation (short sides, long top) has been the foundation of men's haircuts since forever, but it's popular to take it to extremes these days.

Oh, what does everyone think of Leslie? She kind of reminds me of Mona with her chic nerd glasses and super straight hair and something about her demeanor. Was she just there as a plot point to give Hannah a reason to look through the Edgar Allan Poe book? Is she sinister? Will she be around longer?

Oh, also, in re that tape, they all assume it's Bethany (which I think it probably is) talking about Alison, but it could also be about Mrs. DiLaurentis, right? Do we think she and Allison are sisters? I kind of assume they are but they seem like they'd have to be awfully close in age for having the same mom and if they're twins then what's the problem? Unless Mrs. DiLaurentis kidnapped Allison? If so she got more than she bargained for.

Oh God also that blood being Alison's and not Mona's! I totally forgot about that! It is bonkers! I assume it's a setup? Probably A has just vats and vats of the blood of everyone in Rosewood sitting around to dribble in creepy places.

They actually teased A having blood samples from everyone in next week's episode, so yeah, total setup.

I don't have a strong read on Lesli, but I don't see her just being a plot to help Hanna discover the tape in the Poe book. She's more than that, but Friend or Foe, I have no idea. The tape is from Radley, right? It at least sounds that way, and Mrs. DiLaurentis was never in Radley, was she?

But she visited Bethany and took her horseback riding and stuff, didn't she? I think I remember something about her visiting Radley and didn't Aria find a picture of her in Bethany's art book that she stole by being kind of terrible to that young woman who was Bethany's roommate?
