Chisato and Mahilo are two high school girls who are about to graduate. They also happen to both be highly skilled assassins.

Transitioning to being adults and getting a cover job is more challenging than either anticipated. Starring Akari Takaishi and Saori Izawa. Starring Mone Akitani Written and directed by Yugo Sakamoto.

Damn I should have proofread more carefully. What I get for posting when I am hot and tired.

This is kind of like if someone remade Ghost World as an low budget action comedy. There's not much plot, but it's still fun to watch because these characters, despite being sociopaths, are compelling as they try to find their way as young adults. Saori Izawa is a stunt woman who is also in John Wick 4 and her fight sequences are mesmerizing. Unsurprising Baby Assassins 2 is coming out this year and will hopefully arrive in the US quickly as I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.

The Ghost World comparison is apt. We quite liked this one, for the same reasons as you. It is indeed a funny teen girl coming of age story, just with slacker killers. I liked the subplot of the blonde girl realizing she's a sociopath, and is more curious about it than horrified... which I suppose would the logical reaction to that.

It is enjoyable to me that I have followed miss-lapin's posts in FF long enough that when I see a movie that looks like something I might have posted myself but didn't, it is overwhelmingly likely she posted it.

I saw a review on Letterbox complaining that the assassins weren't actually babies. Fair enough, but I'm just glad they weren't assassins who take out babies. That'd be a grim watch.

I really loved this too. Good simple cheap violent fun. It's very cute (Takashi Aikari practically pops out of the screen) and the action is good. Kinda up my alley, plus I often fall for like off-beat couple movies. I see the Ghost World comparison though it's on the opposite end of the life-affirming scale than this movie.

I'm not really sure why the yakuza daughter let Chisato go.

Years ago I saw A Janitor by the same director, released just before this, that has the two leads from this as essentially the same characters (but not actually). I guess he recognized a good thing and ran with it.

By now there is Baby Assassins: 2 Babies, which is streamable, and Baby Assassins: Nice Days which is not findable yet, and an even newer TV mini-series "Baby Assassins Everyday!".
