I can tell the difference in the voices, but it's not distracting. That said, I thought this was a pretty weak episode. Glad to see BP is alive and well. Rick says at the beginning that he defeated his nemesis between the seasons, but it's hard to tell if he was being sarcastic. It seems like there's a faction of the writers who don't like grand plot arcs and want to get back to poop jokes, and perhaps they're ascendant for season 7. (Yes, I'm doing R&M writers room Kremlinology)
re: Hugh Jackman. Wasn't "celebrity guest of the week" one of the omens that the Simpsons had jumped the shark?

I had the exact same thought about The Simpsons once I verified on IMDb that it really was Hugh Jackman! Agree that the story was underwhelming.
I thought Morty’s voice was better than Rick’s, but both were fine and undistracting.

I really don't think I'd have noticed they were new voices if I hadn't known they were. The new guys are doing a great job. The story wasn't anything special but I think it had to be kind of a "look, just because Roiland is gone doesn't mean this becomes a whole different show, we can still use these characters, have no fear" sort of episode.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it but to me this explicitly felt like a "now we can actually be the Simpsons" episode - it feels to me like Roiland has been seen as a potential liability for a long time and as the show sheds him it becomes something that could be on the air for many years rather than waiting for the other shoe to drop as it has been. What better way to run the "100 years Rick and Morty" flag up the flagpole than this sort of dumb stunt movie-star-as-himself casting?

re: Hugh Jackman. Wasn't "celebrity guest of the week" one of the omens that the Simpsons had jumped the shark?I'm not too worried about that. Season 1 had John Oliver and Jemaine Clement. Season 2 had Key & Peele, Stephen Colbert and Werner Herzog! This isn't new ground for them.

Excellent joke with the cyberghost, probably the best single laugh out of it I've had in a bit.

Right on the money, actually! From a recent THR interview with Harmon:
Right on the money, actually! From a recent THR interview with Harmon:
The way that Rick and Morty is run now, Harmon believes it could mirror The Simpsons and continue for decades — though they’ve only aired 30 of the 70 episodes, and he’s been around the business long enough to know that nothing is promised.posted by Rhaomi at 10:18 PM on October 24, 2023 [1 favorite]

I think they meant when famous people play a version of themselves, not voicing a made up character.

Must it fall to me to mention Elon Tusk?

I thought the episode was okay, but was really impressed by the new voice actors -- totally could have fooled me if I went in not knowing about the Roiland scandal. (Speaking of voice acting, this episode stars Hugh Jackman as himself!)
