Taskmaster NZ: Full Season One
December 7, 2023 4:56 AM - Season 1 (Full Season) - Subscribe
Jeremy Wells acts as Taskmaster in this New Zealand edition of Taskmaster, with Paul Williams acting as his assistant. It first aired in NZ in 2020 and TM is now uploading an episode every few days to YouTube! Episodes one and two have aired so far.
I am completely unfamiliar with everyone involved so here are Instagrams for everyone, I was going to link Wikipedias but it spoils the winner (realised that before reading the winning profile luckily!)
Jeremy Wells
Paul Williams
Angella Dravid
Brynley Stent
Guy Williams
Leigh Hart
Madeleine Sami

I may be biased but as a longtime Taskmaster viewer, the NZ version of TM is actually better than the original in many ways. Season 2 is my favorite but they are all good.
Wells is just OK as the Taskmaster but Williams is an excellent assistant, and the tasks are very inventive to the extent that the British version has started to borrow successful tasks from NZ episodes.

And, in my opinion, they have yet to do so in a way that’s superior or even equal to the NZ version! I mean Sarah Millican making the lab smell like spoiled milk was pretty great but David Correos… well I’ll wait till everyone gets there.
Anyway, this season is finding its feet a little but Angella is great and I’m deeply fond of Paul and if anyone is watching and thinking “this is OKAY but I’m not sure I like it enough to continue” I implore you to stick around for season 2.

The absolute chaos of season two is great, but even in this season the potential shows. Everyone swears SO much.

I have watched some of Season 1 and Season 2 and somehow it just doesn't charm me like the original does.
Paul is definitely a highlight and I'd love to see some sort of crossover episode where he goes to the UK and just pops up in a chair on the other side of Greg or something.
I appreciate that they have much more space to use and use it pretty well. Anytime someone goes wandering out to the pond or into the woods is usually a good laugh.
Maybe it's the contestants. They seem more... I don't know, assertive or contentious. More "on".
Maybe it's the tasks themselves. At least in the episodes I watched, there weren't as many puzzle tasks (get the thing in the other thing, etc) as there were what I think of as editing tasks (Film yourself doing a thing).
I don't know, it just doesn't do it for me like the original.

Britain's Channel 4 has the Swedish version now as well. I've watched the first few minutes of both, but can't get past the fact that Greg and Alex aren't presiding. Their personalities and the chemistry between them are absolutely central to the show's appeal for me.

Jeremy is not as good as Greg, but David Coreos from series 2 is hands down my favourite participant.
Taskmaster Norway (the playlist for some reason has all the episodes from the first series twice and the subtitles are sometimes not great) is not bad either imo though the taskmaster Atle probably should have been cancelled for racism (he did sit out one series but they brought him back)

(Episode 4) We had two contestants who both stuffed all the other vegetables into the pumpkin, and therefore should have both been disqualified! Or is it sufficiently different that Guy did it turducken-style, while Leigh just pulverized all the inner veggies?
