What really shines to me, as a non-autistic person, is that the writers and directors really seem to take care in the depiction of autism. I wish I knew what actually autistic people thought on this score.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Mortensen spent a great deal of time with autistic groups, to make sure her depiction of Astrid was a solid one. I also seem to recall reading the support group Astrid goes to are all played by autistic actors. I can't vouch for that, though.

I love this show. It's positively cozy, and I don't even like "cozy" anything. And how refreshing that it's not full of violence, sex, or four letter words.
I do feel that Mortensen's depiction of Astrid is a little too telegraphed in terms of the physical manifestations of autism, but as an autist myself I'd far rather have that than the usual presentation of stereotyped symptoms (based on how it manifests in men, for example). And kudos to Mortensen to having done her homework diligently ... like an actually autistic person would!
