Special Event: Coachella - First weekend April 12-14
April 12, 2024 9:29 PM - Subscribe

Coachella's 6 stages are streaming on YouTube (most countries?). Let's watch some live music.

Coachella stage (#1)

Outdoor Theatre (#2)

Sahara (#3)

Mohave (#4)

Gobi (#5)

Sonora (#6)

Schedule available at various places but here's one from Vulture.com

The same schedule should apply to next weekend as well. As far as I can tell everything on stage is shown live, although that's not always true.

Sublime - Blur - No Doubt, if they had Beck show up to play “Devils Haircut” it would be the most 1990s KROQ beach mix ever.

I watched part of Tyler, the Creator last night and that guy knows how to work a stage.

I missed Justice and Jungle, I hope they repeat them.

It looks like the full streams from last weekend are still available, although you can only _officially_ seek back 12 hours.

yt-dlp, on the other hand, lets you start from the beginning. If you have lots of disk space (15gigs/day/stage, I think, roughly) and a fair chunk of time (they rate limit things so you aren't DOSing youtube), you could download it and do ffmpeg-shaped tricks to pop out the performances you were interested in for instant bootlegs.

Is it smart or legal? ehhh. At least Coachella seemed to have figured out that they really need to leave the band name up on screen all the damn time this year, it made it easier to skip back to watch shows I was interested in from the night before or simply missed watching live by an hour or two. (oh I'm back to Jungle, that means I just need to nudge it forward a bit for Gesaffelstein, instead of the "who the hell _are_ these people? shazam isn't finding any matches because it's live, soo where am I in the evening's lineup?" uncertainty from last year.)

L'Imperatrice had a couple of unfortunate technical issues (but I am so hyped for the new album in June now), and Orbital's aging crowd seemed pretty thin and exhausted by 11:40pm on Saturday.

I'm curious how different the 2nd week will be.

Oops, I missed this post! I watched Friday and Saturday, and Saturday on the second weekend.

I was a bit dismayed that the lineups were the same the second weekend, but then I figured, say, Orbital played lots of bangers the first weekend. Maybe they'd be more chill the second time around? Reader, they did not chill.

Although I think the video team got some guidance in the intervening week - Phil & Paul aren't exactly interesting subjects behind their array of keys & knobs, but they put work into their video backdrops, so when in doubt, cut to a camera showing that, thanks? Week 1 they just showed a kind of creepy amount of crowd instead.

I mean, when in doubt, having a pissed off Jason Williamson on the screens for Dirty Rat instead of festivalgoers bouncing along, y'know?

I watched both weekends but managed to miss Jungle and Doja Cat both times. 😔
